Eliot Sinclair have carried out the design of a number of sports pitches and tennis courts, both for private clients and regional sporting bodies.
Most recently, Eliot Sinclair were lead designer for a hockey turf in Northwest Christchurch. Eliot Sinclair staff undertook the design of the turf and associated infrastructure, prepared the tender documentation and drawings and supervised the construction of the turf. Eliot Sinclair also provided surveying input to the project, carrying out a pre-development topographical survey and setting out the construction works. Other services provided by Eliot Sinclair included landscape architecture and geotechnical investigation and reporting.
The design work included reviewing the topographical data to site the pitch in the best location to minimise the earthworks volumes, stipulating the profile of the pitch to match client requirements and national and international hockey standards, and interpretation of the geotechnical data to ensure the depth of the asphalt and metalcourse layers that provide the support for the playing surface were optimised. Council requirements meant the stormwater runoff from the hockey turf had to be maintained to pre-development levels in order to protect the local watercourse from flooding and erosion. Eliot Sinclair staff undertook on site infiltration testing and calculations to size a rapid soakage chamber that allowed the Council’s criteria to be met and protect the stream.
Whatever your sport, Eliot Sinclair would be pleased to be involved in the design of your next facility.
